The 22nd World Scout Jamboree 2011, Sweden

This summer, the stunning region of Rinkaby in Southern Sweden will see up to 40,000 Scouts from 150 countries, camping together in what is a truly unique and amazing experience. From the first event back in the 1920s, the World Scout Jamboree has taken place every four years and continues to provide an incredible two weeks of activities promoting international friendship and creating lifelong memories.

Based at the Ivo campsite in Sweden for the duration of the summer, our Venture Abroad representative will be escorting groups to the Jamboree celebrations every day for the whole two weeks; bringing you all the news and events as our groups engage in activities and share their experiences with Scouts from across the world.

The sun was shining brightly as the first group arrived on the island of Ivo only 14km away fro the Jaboree site! GLSE Scouts even decided to go for an evening stroll around the island to check out all the local hotspots. Unfortunately, the following day brought greyness and rain, however, this did not stop our lively campers as some set out for a hike, some took to the lake and some of the younger members of Fensham explorers even braved a bike ride!

I’m looking forward to meeting the group with which I will be travelling and being part of a Scout Jamboree 8 years on from my visit to the World Scout Jamboree in Thailand.
