De Kluis - Belgium

Located on the edge of the Meerdaal forest, 20km from Brussels, De Kluis is a campsite rich in nature with plenty of outdoor space. With over 35 hectares of forest surrounding its 20 campsites, this Scout and Guide camp provides the 'back to nature' atmosphere that many Scout and Guide groups expect from a holiday. With so much space, activities are plentiful and assault courses, hiking, biking and rafting are just some of the many activities our groups return to De Kluis for year after year.

Every four years, De Kluis closes the gates and Venture Abroad ‘up camp’ and move to Merkenveld. Boasting over 22 hectares of forest, this lush campsite, with plenty of wide open spaces, is brimming with activities to keep your group fully entertained all week long.

What a Season!

8 Sep

Well firstly a big THANK YOU to everyone whom I met at De Kluis over the summer, both the groups, staff and other scout and guide groups that I met during my time there. You’ve all made the summer a great one!

I’m now back in Teesside having had a week to recover and see some old friends before my next adventures.

We managed to take all of the tents down in just a couple of hours which meant we had the evening to visit Leuven for one last time before I left Belgium. The journey back home seemed to pass quickly, probably because I was asleep for the most of it!

Thank you once again to everyone who came out to De Kluis on their summer camps, and I hope to see some of you again in the future on other camps in different locations!

Welcome to De Kluis, Telford Scouts and Wimslow Scouts!

A sunny Saturday saw the last two groups of the season arrive ready and eager to get stuck into camp life!

The Saturday was spent chilling out on site and exploring after their journey from the UK. Sunday saw the usual trip to the Scout and Guide Museum in Leuven in which everyone was instructed to do the quiz, including myself! After the Museum both groups wandered back through Leuven and managed to find a brass band playing in one of the squares so they stopped for a dance! A Touch of Damp, Pizzas and a Head for Heights!

25 Aug

So Since I last updated it’s been another very busy couple of days!

I accompanied Stratton to Brussels where we took in the delights through a walking tour of the town. This was great because I saw a lot more of the city than I did the first time I went all those weeks ago at the start of the season. We saw the Manakin Pis, ate Waffels, went to the Cathedral and even More »

Well it’s nearly the end of yet another action packed week of fun, the time seems to have flown by!

With three groups on site it’s been a bit of a challenge trying to keep up with everyone, but I’ve managed so far!

Since the last post at the start of the week, Easingwold Guides have been on the Adventure Ropes course (where there were a few screams let out!), had a go at BMXing around the forest, had a shopping trip to Leuven and a day trip to Brussels and are off in Bruge today to visit the chocolate factory and quite possibly some proper Belgian waffles!
