Day 4 – Sunshine, extreme heat and a waterpark!

1 Aug 13

Today has been a glorious day in every respect. The weather has been more than kind and gave us a scorching 38 degrees and not a cloud in the sky! The perfect weather for a water park some would say…well its a good job that was where we went today! After we arrived in Le Touquet the group split up to discover the delights of the towns market, have a look in the shops, sample an ice cream or two and relax on the magnificent beach! It seemed to go on for ever! After lunch the group made their way to Aqualud for an afternoon of rides, rapids, lazy rivers and pirate ships! The perfect way to spend an afternoon! Once back at Le Chateau, we have had dinner and are now gearing up for the disco and then the closing ceremony where there will be promises made and new friendship cemented! Its been a great few days and I will be sad to be leaving tomorrow, but I’m sure the memories will live for a very long time and as we have all survived, hopefully Le Chateau 2013 can now be classed as an adventure.

A Canal Cruise, Choco-Story and Jazz Hands!

First a round up from last night. After dinner the girls were treated to a French night where they got to practise their French language skills before making, and eating pancakes; or should that be crepes!? Then it was onto the games room for an indoor camp fire! The camp fire basically consisted of a good old fashioned sign along! All the Guiding favourites were out – some old and some new. Not everyone knew all the songs but everyone, including Lindsay and I had a great time. More »

Today started early as we departed for our day; firstly in Saint Omer and then on to Boulogne-sur-Mer and the Nausicca Sea Life Centre, but more on this later. First a round up of the events of yesterday evening… After dinner the whole group gathered together for an Opening/Welcome Ceremony. Everyone got together in a big circle in the sunshine and joined ribbons as a symbol of what the week was about – friendship, challenge and adventure. More »

We have arrived at Le Chateau to a very warm welcome and amazing blue skies and sunshine! The journey was quick and easy and everyone seemed to enjoy the ferry – there were no reports of sea sickness anyway! We arrived at Le Chateau and the leaders were given a quick run down as to what’s what and then the girls were given a quick tour of the grounds before heading straight to the playing fields before dinner. After dinner we have an Opening Ceremony from the Leadership Team and then there’s a game of rounders! Everyone is looking forward to our first full day tomorrow! Lets hope the sunshine makes another appearance!

Only two days to go and we’re off to Le Chateau!

fran-lindsey

Only two days to go before Lindsay and I are off with Girlguiding Midlands to Le Chateau d’Ebblinghem! We’re busy today packing our uniforms, cameras and itinerary  ready for the very early start we have on Monday morning – we will be meeting the coach at 6.30am! We are very excited to be going and feel very lucky that we will get to share the trip with so many Girlguides – all 121 of them! My principal role on the trip is to document as much as possible, so I’ll be ever present with my camera in hand, getting the girls to say cheese! I’ll be keeping you up to date with all the goings on over the whole week so watch this space…

Back in the UK

The Parade

Well I’m back in the UK! Last nights Swiss National Day celebrations were excellent. After an afternoon spent playing games and checking out all the stalls, it was time for the scouts to change into their formal dress and line up for the ceremony and parade. Everyone was very excited and there was a great deal of shouting, singing and general competitiveness amongst the different nations.

Then it was time for the parade. All the Scouts and Guides took part in a very loud and lively march from KISC to Kandersteg where we met the bonfire, band and finally the fireworks. It was a truly magical night and it was a privilege to be part of the parade with the Scouts that I had come to know over the last few days.

Enjoy the rest of the Summer – Thanks KISC
