About Eleanor Moss

Eleanor Moss

I'm Ellie and I am the VA Adelboden Rep for this summer. I'm no stranger to Switzerland as I spent the summer working there for VA two years ago so I’m excited to go back and meet more guiding groups! The area has so much to offer and the mountains are breathtaking! I'm about to graduate from The University of Sheffield with a languages degree in German, French and Dutch. My favourite way to spend my free time is playing sport- rugby and running are my favourite things to do!

Final few days in and around Adelboden

18 Aug 16

Another few packed days for Gibraltar and Dearne as they near the end of their stay- it has rushed by in the blink of an eye!

Yesterday, Dearne went to Interlaken by bus, train and boat to experience the chocolate show and do some souvenir shopping. Gibraltar, meanwhile, went to the Truemmelbachfaelle- some really impressive water falls near Lauterbrunnen.

Fantastic Mountain Views

16 Aug 16

What a few days it has been!

Both groups traveled to Kandersteg on Sunday to the Oeschinensee and tried out the toboggan run, paddled in the lake and enjoyed the wonderful sunshine- very sorry but I forgot my camera so no snaps from that day!

Yesterday Dearne travelled to the Truemmelbach falls, and then continued up to Muerren by cable car for a nice ice cream. The views from the village of the three mountains were amazing! Mürren_view

Cheese and Chalets- the perfect start!

13 Aug 16

After arriving yesterday, both groups have had plenty to keep them busy today. This morning Gibraltar Guides journeyed to the top of the Engstligenalp by cable car to see how traditional Swiss mountain cheese is made. There were a few obstacles to overcome however as we had to plough our way through a herd of cows to reach the entrance!

Amazing views from the Tschentenalp

11 Aug 16

We all woke up today hoping for sunshine, and we got it! The reason? We wanted to see the breathtaking views that the ascent in the Tschentenalp Cable Car offered, and we were not disappointed!

Weather of two extremes for two very different days

9 Aug 16

We come to you live from Adelboden, having finally (sort of) dried off after a very soggy trip to the woodcarver’s workshop for both groups. Sorry for the lack of photos today, but it was so soggy everyone just wanted to power on to their destination, kept eager by the promise of Hot Chocolate!

Yesterday however was a very different story. The sun was beating down on Adelboden, where both groups tried out dare-devil zipwires, monkey bridges and abseils at the Adventure park, also taking time to relax at the swimming pool. For some leaders ‘swimming’ consisted of stopping off at the nearest tea room- those ladies have the right idea!

Managed to get a few snaps, so here they are. Tomorrow both groups will be exploring the village, enjoy! :)

Our Chalet and finally some sunshine!

6 Aug 16

Frome Guides and Guildford Guides have been busy settling in and hoping for sunshine, which has just arrived. Despite a soggy start yesterday, the clouds are gradually clearing and giving way to glorious sunshine. Our Chalet was the destination for both groups today, with Guildford up bright and early for a relaxed walk along to the WAGGGS centre in Adelboden. An emotional visit, as promises were made, as well as a 30 year service award which is a massive achievement. The rest of the afternoon was spent enjoying the sunshine and playing badminton.
